Inclusive Church

Since 2023 both St Thomas' and St James' have been registered as an 'inclusive church' and are part of a national network of churches who work with a shared vision. You can read more about the movement on the website: https://www.inclusive-church.org/

We work hard to make church accessible and available to as many people in the community as we can. Our working group are always looking at ways for us to become more open and inclusive. It affects our decision-making about all aspects of church and social life. We are committed to making no distinction on how we welcome people into our church based on gender, age, sexuality, mental health, financial status or disability.

Hoe and Gardening

Our Hoe and Grow gardening group started in April 2022 with the idea of tidying up the front entrance and back garden of the Church Hall.  From there we moved to work on the side garden cutting back overgrown shrubs, digging up brambles, planting perennials and in a small way growing vegetables to be used in the refectory or put into the local food boxes. We welcome any additional help.  Would you be interested in joining our group? Are you open to a little fresh air, exercise, friendship and wellbeing? If so, please contact our church wardens for more information.

Choir

We have a joint church choir with St James, Haslingden. Members help to lead Sunday morning services and other special services during the year. Singers of all ages, ranges and abilities are always welcome.

Servers

We have a dedicated team of volunteers who serve at the altar during services. Some also help to administer Holy Communion. If you would like to learn more about serving, please contact us.

Refectory Cafe

You can find out more about the Refectory on its own page. Volunteers to help make, bake, serve and clear up are always welcome on the rota. The Refectory is also a great place to meet for coffee and cake, lunch and a chat with friends old and new.

Bell Ringers

St Thomas' has a ring of 8 bells which are rung before the Sunday morning service and for special occasions, including weddings. Bell Ringing is a very sociable activity If you've never tried it then why not think about giving it a go? We can put you in touch with someone to help you learn before you become a fully-fledged ringer at our church.

Maintenance

We rely on number of volunteers to help with all the jobs which need doing to keep our church, Hall, and churchyard in good repair. Cleaners, gardeners, handy-people of all kinds. If you'd like to help us out, please let us know!

Social & Fundraising

We love to get together for social events and also to raise money for charity as well as for church funds. Our Parish Lunches are really popular as well as our coffee mornings. We're proud to support 'Raft', our local foodbank, 'CLIC Sargent' children's charity, The Children's Society, MacMillan and more besides.

Fairtrade

As a church family we are committed to sustainable living and care for the planet. One of the ways we promote and support this is with our weekly Fairtrade stall in the Church Hall during post-service coffee. We try to use Fairtrade products wherever we can in church.

Flower Arrangers

Our beautiful church is made even more so thanks to a small but very dedicated team of flower arrangers. Offers of help always welcome!
