The Tower and Spire

St Thomas' has launched a community survey to see what people think and feel about proposed repairs to the church spire. Please complete the survey by clicking the tab below

Anyone familiar with St Thomas’ knows two things – the tower and spire are a significant local landmark and, also, that the tower and spire have long been a source of anxiety. During 2023 this came to a point where serious action had to be taken. Work in recent years has not solved the problem of water ingress. The rain still comes in and this has done some serious damage to the fabric of the structure. There is no option to do nothing.

The Parochial Church Council appointed a new architect during 2023. Mike Darwell of John Coward Architects Ltd, has significant experience of working with buildings and issues such as ours. Working with him, a full survey of the tower and spire was carried out and options drawn up for how work might be carried out to safeguard the church and tower for the present and the future.

By clicking the Report tab you can find the full report on the findings of the recent survey, along with photographs. The 'options' document outlines in detail the three proposals our architect has suggested as ways forward.

Anyone with a particular interest should contact us via the contact us button above.

Fundraising

Maintaining our outreach into the community, working with local schools, the elderly and housebound and resourcing worship is all funded by the church and wider community. Keeping our Grade II listed church building open and in good repair is a huge cost each year. If you would like to support us in our work, you can click on our 'PayPal' button and donate on-line. You can also scan the QR code and give that way.

All donations are really appreciated. Thank you, in advance!

A Prayer

The Vision 2026 Prayer for the Diocese of Blackburn

Heavenly Father, we embrace Your call for us to make disciples, to be witnesses, to grow leaders and inspire children and young people. Give us eyes to see Your vision, ears to hear the prompting of Your Spirit and courage to follow in the footsteps of Your Son; our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
